Kors, originally born Karl Anderson Jr, was born in NYC and studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology before being discovered by Dawn Mello, fashion director at Bergdorf, in the late 1970s. Kors has won numerous accolades during his career as a fashion designer including the 1999 CFDA womenswear designer of the year award and the 2003 CDFA award for menswear designer of the year. In 2013, he was selected for the Times 100 list.
