International Jewellery & Watch Show - Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre opened its doors to the 22nd International Jewellery & Watch Show, with JWS taking place between 13th – 17th March, bringing together over 150 international exhibitors and offering over 8,000 visitors the opportunity to explore the latest in stunning jewellery and timepiece designs.

With breath-taking displays of the finest creations in gold, silver, diamonds and gemstones, JWS showcased contemporary pieces from exhibitors across the world, which this year included:

  • Zydo, the premier Italian designer whose beautiful diamond rings offered an unusual twist by incorporating green and lemon quartz.
  • Mogul Gems and Jewels, who combined stunning design with heavily jewelled statement pieces that were lightweight and easy to wear, a speciality of this designer.
  • Dubai based Istana, and their colourful gemstone range of exclusive jewellery designs, with striking rubies, sapphires and emeralds all making an appearance in their collections.
  • Jaipurgems, recreating Indian designs with an amazing collection which included statement gold cuffs, adding a new dimension to these pieces by featuring an array of flat cut diamonds and beautiful pearls.

A show highlight was an exhibit by Ralph Bethancourt, whose rare emerald pieces from Columbia included a stunning gold necklace capturing the natural beauty of an unprocessed emerald in this statement piece.  Columbian emeralds were also in Dhamni Jewels’ display as part of their Royal Jewellery Collection, set in intricate diamond settings that simply dazzled.

A key focus for this year’s show was the Emirati Jewellery Designer Awards, which were organised in partnership with renowned UAE jewellery designer Azza Al Qubaisi, offering a unique opportunity for emerging UAE talents to showcase their designs and also receive support and mentoring from the highly successful designer.  Azza Al Qubaisi completed her studies at London’s Guildhall University and developed her own brand ARJMST, with water and the desert providing inspiration for her individual handmade pieces made from locally sourced materials including silver.  This year’s winners included Nour Al Nablsie whose design won the Day Jewellery Award, with Asma Abdulla taking the prize for Evening Jewellery, and Hamda Al Hamli receiving the award for Contemporary Emirate, all of whom earned the fantastic opportunity to exhibit at next year’s JWS as part of their award.
